First and foremost let me wish everyone a happy New Year - I hope that 2009 is a good year for all of us, with plenty of time drinking good beer with good mates in good pubs (a theme I am sure I will be coming back to repeatedly in the near future, the pubs that is).
I arrived back from my Christmas and New Year sojourn to France and the UK last night - landing in a snow flurry - winter seems to have arrived at last in Prague, and with temperatures due to hit -15º Celsius this week I am very glad for my lambs wool sweaters.
Over the past two weeks I have drunk beers from the UK, France, Belgium and Canada (that was something of a surprise) - many of them completely new to me, quite of few of them were very nice, and a number of them were downright rank.
Although most of my drinking over the last couple of weeks has been done in the delightfully domestic setting of a living room whilst watching the football scores on teletext, I have been to a couple of pubs, and will be giving comments in due course.
So hopefully normal service will be resumed in the coming weeks.

The price of beer has been on my mind a fair bit lately. At the weekend I kicked my first keg of homebrew for the 2024, a 5.1% amber kellerb...

Happy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Watching football scores on teletext! The joys I've been missing in my life :)
ReplyDeleteHappy 2009 to you, mate.
Could this be the year for a homebrewing scene explosion in czech rep.I m hoping to get my equipment soon! :) Keep us updated with your adventures in homebrewing :)
ReplyDeleteI am planning my first homebrew experiment in the coming weeks - tentatively a smoked mild. It will be a somewhat rough and ready approach to brewing but I am looking forward to getting underway.
ReplyDeleteA smoked mild? nice idea. You've made the start of many to follow! Got to get my equipment soon! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year. I'm on the wagon for january, so any visitors to my blog will be saved my half-arsed opinions about beer.
ReplyDeleteI am also on the wagon for the month, but have plenty of material from the last two weeks. I hope my liver lasts that long!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I am looking forward to your posts this year, being a lurker for the past months.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!
Hey Beer Sagas,
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying the blog!
Great picture at the top of yours, makes me feel like a Czech-based Homer Simpson - "mmmmm, Kout".
Kout is a great memory. I met Pivni Filosof in Prague in December, and I was treated to the offers of U Slovanské Lipy. The hospoda was OK, but the beers served there were fantastic. I am really looking forward to tasting them again.
ReplyDeleteI envy you living in the Czech Republic. Kout is really an excellent brewer.
